black and white chair

Industrial Design
A chair, designed for a relaxed posture, to be used indoors.
the chair has been constructed out of bamboo, species dendrocalamus strictus, which grows solid in certain parts of india where water in the soil is less. the solid nature of this bamboo allows it to be turned on a lathe like wood.
the design exploits this possibilty in bamboo, and all the members of the chair have been spindle-turned on lathe to offer a sculpted volume. this brings a dissociation to the aesthetics already established about bamboo, yet exploting the structural strength, bamboo is already known for.
the material used for weaving are ropes made out of waste from t-shirt factory. where scraps of cloth have been reused to be woven as ropes.
the construction of the chair tries to explore weaving in furniture as well, where the various members supporting the seat and the backrest-weave have been so designed to form a frame, that the weave gets a dimension. curving in an ergonomic way to sculpt the seat and the backrest. hence, emulating the comfort of upholstered furniture with simple weaving.
painted with water-based stainer. and stackable.
